The Wolf River in Shiocton (at Bamboo Bend) in early morning with fog rising from the river

Where is Messiah Lutheran located?

We are on the east end of Shiocton and on the north side of Highway 54.

What time is the worship service?

  • Worship begins at 9:00 AM every Sunday.
  • The service usually lasts an hour.

What is the worship service like?

We worship God using a liturgical service. With songs and responsive readings the focus is kept on the Word of God and on our Savior.

The sermon is based on a portion of the Bible. You will hear the truth of God's love and forgiveness for sinners.

Hymnals are available in the pews. The liturgy or "order of service" is in the front of the hymnal, and hymns make up the majority of the book.

A worship folder is distributed each week. It includes the page and hymn numbers being used that day. Numbers are also posted at the front of the sanctuary.  During the service, Pastor  announces the page number that is currently being used.

What should I wear?

You'll see a wide variety of attire in our worship service—some people are in ties or nice dresses, and others dressed more casually. On game day, you are likely to see more than one person in jeans and a Packer jersey.

We are more interested in having you join us and worshipping Jesus with us than we are about what you wear.

What about the offering?

Offerings are a way of worshipping God and supporting the ministry of the congregation. We intentionally include the offering in the service because it is part of our worship.

The offerings that we give are always freewill offerings. God has not commanded any amount from anyone.

If you are visiting, please be our guest. We don't expect you to make an offering. If you'd like to participate, please do; but we understand that you may want to get to know us better before you support our work.

When are Sunday School/ Confirmation Classes?

Wednesday afternoons . . .

  • Bible History Class for elementary school students is from 3:30-4:40.
  • Confirmation Class for grades 7-8 is from 4:30-6:00 PM.

What is your policy on the Lord's Supper?

Our congregation observes “close communion.”  Only those who belong to a congregation that publicly confesses the same faith with us (ELS or WELS) may join us at the Lord’s Table.  Please speak to Pastor Ragner if you have any questions.

What should children do during worship?

Families are encouraged to worship together, and this includes children of all ages.  The interjection of small voices during the service is a joyful reminder to all of us that we are here to teach both young and old.

If it becomes too difficult for your child to remain in the worship service, you are welcome to go to the fellowship hall. It includes speakers, chairs, and room for little ones to move around.
